§ 1 Legal status

The F.A. Finger Institute for Building Materials Engineering (FIB) is a scientific facility of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The institute is based on the professorship of Construction Materials, which was granted institute status on 21 December 1995 in accordance with the Thuringian Higher Education Act (§ 109 Thüringer HG).

§ 2 Tasks

The tasks of the F. A. Finger Institute for Building Materials Science are:

  • research in the diverse field of Construction Materials over their entire life cycle
  • co-operation with national, international, economic, state and municipal institutions interested in the work of the Institute
  • the promotion of scientific co-operation at home and abroad
  • the promotion, safeguarding and expansion of scientific training and professional development that take into account the demands of modern materials research and construction practice

§ 3 Members

Members of the Institute are the professors, teaching / research associates, non-academic staff, doctoral students and student and research assistants enrolled as students at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

§ 4 Executive Board

The Chair of the Professorship of Construction Materials holds the position of Institute Director and chairs the Executive Board. In consultation with the other professors, the Institute Director represents the Institute within the Faculty and towards external persons and organisations. He is obliged to provide information to and be accountable to the Members of the Executive Board.
The Executive Board passes the full professors working at the Institute. The Deputy Director of the Institute is appointed from their ranks. The Executive Board decides on the deployment of employees working at the Institute, unless they are assigned to a specific professorship.
The member groups not represented on the Executive Board each send one representative with an advisory vote. The representatives are elected by the Members of the Institute separately by group for a period of two years.
The Executive Board meets at least once a quarter. It discusses and decides on current tasks concerning the Institute as well as coursework and research. Resolutions must be passed unanimously by the Executive Board.

§ 5 Equal treatment clause
