Earthquake-stressed foundations of offshore wind turbines
Building on previous theses (see Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: Vibrating table tests on caisson foundations), the Chair of Geotechnics is offering a project in the summer semester 2025 to investigate the influence of seismic effects on the foundations of offshore wind turbines.
As part of the project, foundations for offshore wind turbines will be designed and manufactured using 3D printing, which will then be installed in a sand sample on the Geotechnical Engineering Department's shaking table and subjected to an earthquake signal. The reaction of the foundation to the earthquake stress will be investigated both in the laboratory and in numerical simulations in the FE programme numgeo (www.numgeo.de). A subsequent comparison of the results will validate the experiments.
