Student Health Insurance

Proof of compulsory student health insurance

Every student must have health insurance. This means that proof of valid health insurance is required for enrollment at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. No enrollment without proof of health insurance status. Since 01 January 2022, the electronic student registration procedure (SMV) of the statutory health insurance companies has been in force at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Notifications in paper form can no longer be accepted.

To prove your health insurance status, the following applies

- for applicants with German citizenship: Please ask your statutory health insurance company to send an electronic notification (M10) of your insurance status to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (quote our sender number H0000493), please contact your statutory health insurance company - the sooner the better - the M10 must be received by 30 September at the latest.

- Students who change their statutory health insurance provider: To ensure that the next re-registration can take place smoothly, we require an electronic notification of the change of health insurance provider (M11) from your new health insurance provider. Please quote our submission number H0000493.

- Privately insured students in Germany should contact “any” statutory health insurance company and ask to be exempted from compulsory insurance if necessary. You are free to choose which statutory health insurance company you wish to notify. Please quote our dispatch number H0000493.

Note: The exemption is valid for the entire duration of your studies and cannot be revoked.

- International students: Depending on your home country and whether you have statutory or private health insurance, different conditions apply to health insurance in Germany. If you have another type of health insurance that is not statutory health insurance with a health insurance fund in Germany, this must be checked by a statutory health insurance fund in Germany. This also applies to any health insurance policies you may have taken out in your home country. Contact any German health insurance company BEFORE you enrol - the sooner the better - and get comprehensive advice.

The health insurance companies report to the universities:

  • Insurance status of students (M10)
  • Start of insurance in the event of a change of health insurance provider (M11)
  • Delay in payment of health insurance contributions, automatic LOCK for re-registration at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (M12)
  • Payment of the overdue health insurance contributions by the student automatically triggers the re-registration block at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (M13)

The university notifies the health insurance companies:

  • Start of studies and date of enrollment at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (M20)
  • End of the semester in which or with effect from the end of which the de-registration takes place/succeeded (M30)
