2024 is a super election year in Thuringia, Brandenburg and Saxony with local (from 26 May), European (6 – 9 June) and state (1 September in Thuringia) elections all scheduled to take place. The »92 Tage« (92 days) campaign is the brainchild of instructors and alumni from the Faculty of Art and Design and calls on students from all Thuringian universities to register their residence in Thuringia so that they can vote in the upcoming elections and support democracy in the Free State.

At the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, we understand that we play a key role in society, especially in Weimar and Thuringia. We fulfil this role by embracing social responsibility, actively representing democratic values in public, understanding democracy as a fundamental element of our identity, and drawing on scientific, artistic and administrative knowledge and expertise. To highlight this role, Dr. Ulrike Kuch, Vice President for Social Transformation, has declared »Demokratie stärken« (strengthening democracy) as the key theme for 2024.

Through the »Demokratie stärken« fund, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be expressly supporting projects based outside of Weimar that aim to strengthen democracy, collaborate with non-university partners and make their work visible to the public.

Bei einer am Montag, 22. Januar 2024, von Studierenden der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar organisierten Demonstration für Demokratie und gegen Faschismus gehörte neben Thüringens Ministerpräsident Bodo Ramelow und Jens-Christian Wagner, Direktor der Stiftung Gedenkstätten Buchenwald und Mittelbau Dora, auch Universitätspräsident Prof. Peter Benz zu den Rednern. Dr. Ulrike Kuch, Vizepräsidentin für gesellschaftliche Transformation, sprach am Samstag, 27. Januar 2024, bei einer Demonstration, organisiert vom AWO-Regionalverband Mitte-West-Thüringen e. V., die unter dem Motto »Für Demokratie – #WirGemeinsam« stand.

On 25 January 2024, the WELTOFFENES THÜRINGEN initiative made its début before a large audience for the first time in Jena’s historic town hall. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar was one of the first supporters of this unique civil society organisation in Thuringia. The website www.thueringen-weltoffen.de meanwhile has over 4,500 signatories.
