International Degree Programmes

European Media Culture (B.A./L.I.C.)

The Faculty of Media provides students in the bachelor's degree programme Media Studies the opportunity to participate in the binational dual degree course in European Media Culture. In cooperation with the Université Lumière Lyon 2, special courses have been created to teach students to scientifically describe, analyse and critically reflect on the development of European culture within the system of the media.

Computer Science for Digital Media (M.Sc.)

In the English-language Master’s degree programme Computer Science for Digital Media, students are introduced to the latest research findings in the field of interactive digital media. In addition to providing research-oriented professional training, the programme helps students acquire communication and presentation skills through their project work.

Human-Computer Interaction (M.Sc.)

Design and development of intelligent software systems and interfaces have become increasingly important with the pervasiveness of mobile devices and ubiquitous technologies. In the English-language Human-Computer Interaction Master of Science programme, students focus on theoretical and practical issues in current Computer Science research in interface design and interactive system development. As a consecutive program teaching HCI at an advanced technical level, it requires students to have a solid background in computing-related subjects.

Digital Engineering (M.Sc.)

The consecutive Digital Engineering Master's programme combines academically specialised expertise from the Civil Engineering and Computer Science and Media disciplines. The coursework is centred on a practical transfer of methodical interrelations between engineering and computer science for complete digitalisation of design, manufacturing, and application processes. In this international Master's programme you will use a range of modelling concepts as a basis for experimentation with complex processes in computer-aided modelling, simulation and visualisation of engineering problems. In addition, you will deepen your knowledge of information-theory methods of data generation and data handling. The aim is the representation, interpretation, evaluation, and optimisation of interdisciplinary processes in construction, mechanical engineering and other industrial fields. Following the long Bauhaus tradition, projects, use cases and methods for digital civil engineering move into focus. However, the underlying principles and concepts are generally applicable for Industry 4.0.

MediaEcologies (M.A.)

The Master's degree programme in MediaEcologies, which is taught in English, is a subject- and theory-oriented academic course. On the one hand, it opens up the possibility of understanding media in the sense of ecologies, i.e. not simply as individual media (radio, television, computers, etc.), but also in terms of media networks and milieus. On the other hand, it explores the fact that ecological knowledge, ecological awareness and ecological perception are always based on media-related and mediatised matters, i.e. it demonstrates that it is “the” media that make the problem of the environment recognisable as such in the first place – from photographs of the Blue Planet, by way of maps, graphs and curves, to computer models of climate development. The course therefore shows not only media as ecology, but also the important, if not decisive, role that the media play in ecology.
