Sloshing experiment at the shaking table in collaboration with VTE and Geotechnical Department

Liquid Dampers are robust devices for mitigating the excessive vibrations and displacements in slender structures with low structural damping. To this purpose, certain characteristics of liquid dampers need to be known before their implementation to structures.

The experiment of a container filled with liquid consisted in measuring the forces due to liquid sloshing under a range of amplitudes and frequencies. This allows us to compare the measurements with numerical and analytical methods, in order to provide validation for using the sloshing forces in numerical methods for wind-structure-damper analyses.
