Project description

PROJECT 1: QUILTING

This quilted composition embodies sensory experiences from both the outside as well as the inside. During the Covid19 pandemic, I more than ever acknowledged what it meant to have a home. I
especially realized how privileged I am to have place of peace and personal freedom, a place to withdraw from external impulses, to indulge in whatever activity comes to mind.
I found that a home, even if only inhabited temporarily, is what you make of it and lives of the warmth and love you put into it. The unwelcome restriction to spend more time within four walls
forced me into acceptance and turned me into a phlegmatic version of myself. I found peace in
routine: coffee, work, walks, baths, sleep. My impressions were never the same, but they followed a similar cycle and tone. This is partly why I chose to stay in a very earthy, harmonious color palette.

Materials used:
- grey fabric and bubble wrap, to represent water, times spent at the lake in summer and in the bathroom in winter, developing beauty routines and forming a deeper connection with my body
- kitchen cloth, to represent the many hours spent cooking and in good company
- floral fabric, as a literal translation of my relationship to nature, flowers (plants in general) and the times spent outside
