»It‘s different at home.« by Julius Boehm

How do foreign people see Germany when they come to a small german town? Impressions of their home country can say a lot about german peculiarities. By experiencing a different country and another culture, one reflects about how things are at home. What does this say about Germany? The choice of which observation to narrate is another factor forming a picture of Germany. Why did they chose to talk about exactly those impressions?

Three young people, from India, Syria and Tunisia, studying in Weimar, Germany, tell us about their homeland. While listening, we realize how it must feel experiencing Germany from a different point of view.

First when I came to Germany I was amazed how secure it was. And just when I arrived still from the airport, I was right away feeling very nice, warm, a feeling of security. I didn’t worry about anything, about my luggage, about my bus, about the papers, about anything. I felt like everything was going good.

People are always busy here. It’s like they never have time to do anything. Work means so much to the people here. Maybe they should just take some time off to enjoy life a little bit more.

Everything is so much on time here. When people are five minutes early, they would also say they are late. And if I am just one minute late for the bus, then I would have to walk.
