Marie Kurstjens has won the 2026 German Design Award in the »Newcomer of the Year« category. The award is accompanied with 15,000 euros in prize money. The jury commended her understanding of design as a collaborative process for solving social and humanitarian challenges. She received the award for her Bachelor's thesis »COOK/ABILITY« at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and her Master's thesis »Designing Dignity« at the Universität der Künste Berlin.

Wir gratulieren: Lena Libertà, Alumna der Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung, ist mit dem Deutschen Drehbuchpreis 2026 ausgezeichnet worden. Die Verleihung fand am Freitag, 13. Februar 2026, im Rahmen der Berlinale beim Empfang des Deutschen Drehbuchverbands in Berlin statt.

Guido Wolter, visual effects supervisor, has been nominated for an Oscar for his work on the Hollywood film »Sinners«. Wolter studied Media Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar from 2000 to 2006. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, 15 March 2026, in Los Angeles. We're keeping our fingers crossed!

Anya Ryzhkova, Master's student in Media Art and Design, will be celebrating the première of her graduation film project, »vremya fewral’ / STILL FEBRUARY«, on Wednesday 21 January 2026 in the short film competition of the Max Ophuels Film Festival. For the first time, animated films are officially eligible to compete in the Film Festival.

Die Künstlerin Sarah Spitzer, Alumna der Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung, erhält den Preis der Stiftung Ulla und Eberhard Jung 2025. Ausgezeichnet wird ihr medienübergreifender Werkkomplex »Die Entfremdung des Vertrauten« (2022/2025). Wir freuen uns sehr über diese Anerkennung und gratulieren herzlich!

Huge success for Produktdesign (Product Design) at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: Three final projects from the Faculty of Art and Design made it onto the prestigious VDID Newcomer Awards’ shortlist and one of the projects was awarded one of the top three prizes. Felix Stockhausen was honoured for his »Velocity« mobility concept, which redefines getting on and off trains with a bicycle.

Für den schriftlichen Teil ihrer Diplomarbeit »Kartografie summender Rückstände – Im Schlick wühlen« wurde die Freie-Kunst-Absolventin Laura Wiemers mit dem mit 3.500 Euro dotierten Förderpreis »Junge Kunst« der VerbundVolksbank OWL Stiftung in der Kategorie »Literatur/Sprache« ausgezeichnet.

In 2015, a group of international artists walked from Weimar via Dessau to Berlin, tracing the (involuntary) movement of the Bauhaus. Their arrival marked the opening of the 2nd Herbstsalon and the launch of Imaginary Bauhaus. In 2025, they will return with their »Kiosk for a Magic Future« — a transformable place of artistic enchantment. Until November 30, the kiosk invites visitors to performances, films, and discussions to think together about possible futures.

Produktdesign (Product Design) graduate Louise Richter has been awarded prizes in two categories for her piece of furniture for the final stages of life, »BeiStand«. Her piece impressed judges in both the Expert« and the »Consumer« categories. With »BeiStand«, Richter recognised a field that receives little attention: the side table in palliative care settings.
