Information for Incoming Exchange Students

Welcome to the Faculty of Art and Design at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar! Here you will find important faculty-specific information and contacts as exchange student of our partner universities. We are looking forward to welcome you for one or two semesters!

In the following FAQ we have summarised the most frequently asked questions and the answers to them for you.

I would like to study at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar!

We are looking forward to welcome you! Here you will find all the information you need to know for your application and your studies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and life in Germany or Weimar:

https://www.uni-weimar.de/en/university/international/to-weimar/exchange-studies/visa-accommodation-preparation/

I have received an acceptance letter. What do I have to do now?

After your successful application at your home university, your will be nominated for a semester abroad at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

After the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has confirmed your nomination to your home university, you can apply to Bauhaus-Universität through our Online Portal for Incoming Students.

In case of any questions please get in contact with the coordinator for Erasmus Student Mobility from International Office at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar under incoming[at]uni-weimar.de

How do I find my courses for my studies?

We publish the courses shortly before the beginning of the semester. At the beginning of every semester a course selection process takes place at the Faculty of Art and Design. This determines which projects and specialized courses the students will be able to attend. It encompasses three sequential events: project presentations, professor consultations and the ultimate project and practical course selection process.

Registration for all courses of the Faculty of Art and Design is made online via the Bison portal.

Some courses require additional preparation, such as writing a letter of motivation or submitting a portfolio. Please refer to the descriptions of the individual courses in the Bison Portal for information on upload options. You will find additional information on the course via a link in the courses.

How do I find information on the start of the semester?

For students who are spending an exchange semester at the Faculty of Art and Design, there is a separate welcome event in English with the International Counsellor.

The students will be invited by email.

What is a Learning Agreement and what do I have to consider?

The Learning Agreement should be obtained from your home university. It includes a list of courses, which the Erasmus student should attend at the host university. It represents an agreement between the student, the home university and the host university. As an exchange student, you will be advised by YOUR academic advisor from your home university about the courses offered at the Faculty of Art and Design.

As stated above, the courses offered at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for the upcoming semester will not be published until just a few weeks before the semester begins. Furthermore, due to the unique system used for project assignment (i.e. Project presentations, consultations and plenary sessions) it is not possible to define the exact courses which a student will attend and therefore the Learning Agreement can only be filled out on the basis of the general disciplines offered in Weimar. The signature required from the Faculty of Art and Design for the learning agreement will be performed by international counsellor.

How do I fill out my Learning Agreement before mobility?

The courses offered at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for the upcoming semester will not be published until just a few weeks before the semester begins.

Due to the unique system used for project assignment (Project presentations, consultations and plenary sessions) it is not possible to define the exact courses which a student will attend before lessons start and therefore the Learning Agreement can only be filled out on the basis of the general disciplines offered in Weimar.

Each student can attend a total of three courses each semester:

1 Project module, 1 Practical module (Fachmodul/Werkmodul), 1 Academic module

After the successful completion of a semester at the Faculty of Art and Design, students generally receive a total of 30 credit points/ECTS.

How do I fill out my Learning Agreement during mobility?

A change of the Learning Agreement due to changed or adjusted courses is provided within a period of up to four weeks after the start of the lecture period at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. This form must again be signed by you as well as the home university and the International Counsellor.

How do I get my Learning Agreement after mobility and my Transcript of Records?

If you wish to receive a stamped and signed copy of the Transcript of Records, please send an email to us ONCE all results are visible on BISON you wish to appear on the document – together with your filled out Learning Agreement (after mobility) and your INFORMATION ON REGISTERED EXAMINATIONS, as well as the certificate from the language center:

log in: https://studip.uni-weimar.de

Home → DeepL Access → my course → search corresponding semester →go to corresponding course → top bar grade management → left, download attendance confirmation

Please be aware of it:

In order to receive the Transcript of Records, you must contact the International Counsellor at the beginning of the respective examination period (July in Summer Semester / January in Winter Semester).

Please send an email to artanddesign-incoming[at]uni-weimar.de, with the Transcript Generator Sheet. This sheet will be sent to you by the International Counsellor before.

You can print out your own provisional Transcript of Records in Bison and have it signed/stamped by the International Counsellor if your home university is asking prior final version.

Note: The Transcript of Records can only show the results / grading after being announced by the respective lecturer. This usually might take some weeks after the exam date (up to the end of September for Summer Semester / up to the end of March for the Winter Semester).

Can I complete my thesis in Weimar?

Unfortunately, it is not possible for you to follow and work on your thesis project in Weimar under supervision of university staff members. The exchange agreements between our university and the partner universities refer only to teaching cooperation. Thesis supervision is not possible within the framework of the exchange agreements.

Can I extend my stay?

Exchange students might be able to extend their study stay in Weimar by one semester. You can find more information at:
