Seminar: New Urban Mobility

A central subject of urban design projects is urban space. This includes city streets and squares, the current use and appearance of which are primarily determined by car traffic requirements.

However, the primary role of the car-friendly city is losing importance and a shift to new models of urban mobility has taken place. Fewer cars create an increase of urban space, which becomes available again for urban living.

This means a paradigm shift for urban planning, and with it new opportunities and growth for the creation and design of public spaces.

Projects, practices and principles of this new urban mobility will be presented in a seminar connected to the same lecture series and the accompanying design project “Leipzig Central”. The seminar is compulsory for participants of the design project.
