Workshop: Artificial intelligences and their environments

Artificial intelligence is currently experiencing a surge in popularity. Different applications of machine learning have long been an integral part of digital information technology, with which we interact daily-whether consciously or unconsciously. This includes global infrastructures as well as the software modules of our always-available devices. Entire industries and applied sciences are orienting themselves towards 'smarter' systems and see these as forward-looking 'key technologies' that are also supported politically.

Negotiating Freedom (summer semester 2024)

The lecture series explores the significance of freedom in our current society, especially in the context of recent social challenges in Thuringia, and discusses various perspectives on the concept of freedom and its current importance. In addition to the present situation, we are interested in how the understanding of and the relationship to freedom have changed over time and in different contexts, and which impulses are relevant for its further development.

Throwing Gestures

The project "The Entanglement between Gesture, Media, and Politics" examined the interconnections between physical gestures and contemporary ubiquitous and globally networked media technologies. Showing oneself takes on a new significance, both in globally circulating moving image media and in increasingly sensor- and processor-driven everyday worlds. In this context, presence and publicness are changing, according to the project's assumptions.
