Digital Bauhaus Lab
Earthquake Damage Analysis Centre
The Earthquake Damage Analysis Centre (EDAC), or »Erdbebenzentrum« for short, has operated since 1995 at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The Centre investigates earthquake-related structural damage in seismically active regions and is also committed to teaching, research and continuing education.
International Heritage-Zentrum
What significance does our cultural heritage hold in light of global changes in the age of digitalization and climate change? What challenges does it pose for academia and society? At the International Heritage Center at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, we foster international and interdisciplinary collaboration capable of addressing these questions and work together to develop new concepts.
x.steel
Meet, Learn, Research, Present
The existing x.stahl building – an experimental steel structure erected in 2009 – is to be repurposed as a meeting place featuring learning, research and presentation workshops.
Drawing on a wide range of student drafts and project sketches from recent years, test drafts with varied access concepts have been developed, which in turn pave the way for the university to take the lead in project development to a large extent. Further forms of participation followed in the summer semester of 2022: In addition to a presentation to the Senate in April 2022, an interdisciplinary student competition on adaptive façades for the specified functional patterns was held to determine the appearance of this campus building block of university educational architecture. At the same time, during a workshop held as part of the 2022 Tag des Lehrens und Lernens, work was carried out on the specific requirements for spaces designed for social interaction, research, learning and presentation. The results provided the impetus for a wide-ranging discussion and further participatory formats for campus design, which were on display on site as part of the annual exhibition »summaery 2022«. In 2023, a workshop involving representatives from all four faculties, across various staff categories and student initiatives, explored the potential of an open, ideal presentation workshop and raised questions regarding its further development. Several test designs spatially summarise the findings.
