The “Computer Vision in Engineering” group focuses on the automated analysis of image-based information. The rapid development of flexible, lightweight, and affordable sensors is leading to ever-larger and more complex data sets. A key challenge is to analyze this flood of data accurately and efficiently for a variety of applications.
To achieve this, we develop sensor platforms and innovative computer algorithms to derive spatial object information from digital images. For example, in dynamic video sequences, the camera’s own motion can be determined, and the surface shape of objects can be reconstructed from stereo images. Finally, methods of machine learning and model-based image analysis are used for object recognition and modeling the real world.
