Application Process Less More

Application Process

Step 1 | Find a partner university

When looking for a suitable partner university, you should take the following factors into account:

  • Does my faculty have a partnership with my chosen university?
  • Is my degree programme eligible for an exchange with the partner university?

The International Counsellor at your faculty will also be happy to advise you.

Please note:
The annual application round covers the entire next academic year (i.e. the next winter semester and the summer semester after that). You should therefore check at an early stage whether and how studying abroad fits into your study plans.

Step 2 | Applying to Bauhaus University

Once you have chosen a partner university, you can apply for a place to study abroad during one of the two application rounds.

To do this, you must:

  1. complete the application form
  2. provide your personal details
  3. upload your application documents
  4. submit your application

1st application round: each year November–December
2nd application round: each year February

The 2nd application round is aimed at those who either did not secure a place in the 1st application round or who missed the 1st application round. The selection process is the same as for the first application round.

Please note:
In both application rounds, you must specify a first and second choice.

Step 3 | Be selected by your faculty

Once you have submitted your application documents in full and by the deadline, they will be forwarded to your Bauhaus faculty for academic assessment.

The coordinator responsible for the universities you have selected will review your documents and decide on the allocation of the available places.

Please note:
As the number of exchange places per partner university is limited, selection takes place through a comparative process. The criteria applied are academic suitability, language skills and the capacity of the partner universities.

Step 4 | Selection result

Once the selection process at your Bauhaus faculty has been completed, we will inform you of the result by email.

1. Successful application

If your application is successful, you will receive an offer of a place by email (to your Unimail address), which you must accept or decline within 6 days.

Please note:
If you do not accept your offer of a place in time, you will lose your entitlement to that place. Once you have accepted your offer of a place, please find out immediately about the application procedures and deadlines at the partner university. Some partner universities have very early deadlines and/or require specific documents as part of the application. It is your responsibility to find out this information.

2. Rejection

If your application is unsuccessful, you may reapply in the second application round. If you have not received a place offer in the second application round either, please contact the International Counsellor at your faculty.
