Profile

Information security and cryptography are concerned with secure communication in an insecure environment. In its research, the Chair of Information Security and Cryptography concentrates on the design, analysis and use of cryptographic algorithms and security protocols. A particular focus is on symmetric cryptography.

Our courses teach you,

  • how to define security requirements,
  • how to analyze whether a given system meets its security requirements or not, and
  • how to actually implement secure systems.

In particular, students should be enabled to critically analyze IT security systems.

Key areas

In addition to teaching the fundamental principles of discrete mathematics and cryptography, our courses also emphasise the application and transfer of scientific methodology and proofs. Students can specialise in topics through advanced courses, seminars and projects. Our focus on these advanced courses is particularly on symmetric cryptography and post-quantum cryptography.

Key research areas include (symmetric) post-quantum cryptography and distributed signature schemes.
