Take your marks! While swim sport has become more and more dynamic over the time of its existance, its surrounding and equipment hasn‘t changed much. Questioning how the movement and power of the sport can be transferred into the design of a starting block, the design approaches a contemporary, sculptural and dynamic shape on the basis of calculations.
The final product is the result of a four-week approach. The above object was printed in 3D.
In order to check the manufacturability and production capability, I developed a processing which allows the starting block to be blasted out of a planar surface and then bent.
However, the resulting form goes back into a more static design and thus loses the dynamic twist.
Therefore, I consider the last steps of the development rather as an experiment, which brings me back to my above design.
