Moritz Schell and Frederic Seybicke have worked together for the past six years in the area of interface design, scenography, and light and video installations. At the beginning of 2011, they founded the company »weAREmedienkuenstler«, and thereby established a name for their endeavours as an artistic duo.
The exhibition cycle »TRANSITIONS« picks up on the idea they jointly developed. The central element of the concept is that all of the displayed works have to be produced within a prescribed period of time. The exhibition itself is announced before the commissioned artists even have a chance to conceptualise or produce the works. By forcing artists to produce in time for the exhibition opening, the duo breaks with curatorial conventions and generates intense, creative pressure, which is channelled as an adrenaline high into the artwork. The formal requirements are also reflected in the character of the pieces – the artistic improvisations often possess a playful and easily accessible character. The exhibitions themselves are completely managed by the artistic duo who is responsible for public relations, organising venues and determining the arrangement of the works.
