»Nature is the most important model in every design process« Gesa Hansen
The designer Gesa Hansen, named one of the 100 most important designers in the world by Architectural Digest in 2022 and 2023, studied Visual Communication and Product Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar from 2001-2005 under the renowned designer Axel Kufus. As the founder of the furniture brand The Hansen Family in 2009, Gesa Hansen designs timeless pieces characterised by Scandinavian minimalism and emotional depth. She combines traditional craftsmanship with functional aesthetics and favours tactile materials such as wood, leather and marble. Craftsmanship, sustainability and aesthetics are thus bound together in her work at the highest level.
After her studies in Weimar and at the NZU Nagoya University of Arts in Japan, she worked in various design studios in Tokyo and in the renowned studio of architect Jean Nouvel in Paris. Her work has won several important prizes such as the Red Dot Design Award and the Good Design Award. Collaborations with brands such as Villeroy & Boch, Skagerak and Fritz Hansen underline her international success. Gesa Hansen lives and works in Paris.
