The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Elects a New Kanzler (Vice-President)
The University Council of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar unanimously elected a new Kanzler (Vice-President) at its meeting on 17 June 2014: Dr. Horst Henrici was chosen to succeed the long-standing Kanzler (Vice-President) Dr. Heiko Schultz, who will be retiring at the end of the year.
The University Council’s decision, which followed the unanimous votes by the university’s Executive Board and Senate, now paves the way for negotiations with the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. The Ministry must approve the appointment of Dr. Horst Henrici before he can commence his eight-year term of office starting on 1 January 2015.
The 44-year-old Henrici studied Political Science in Munich and Law in Bremen, Würzburg and Thessaloniki, after which he passed his First State Examination in Law in Würzburg. Following his traineeship, Second State Examination in Law in Hamburg and completion of his doctorate, Henrici became the in-house legal advisor at the Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus in 2002. He later assumed responsibility for the university’s academic and student affairs and taught Labour Law. In 2005 he transferred to the TU Berlin where he oversaw admissions and enrolment, and in 2009, became head of the department of Student Services.
As Kanzler (Vice-President) Dr. Horst Henrici will oversee the administrative operations of the university under the responsibility of the President. He will serve as budgetary representative and member of the Executive Board of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
Speaking on behalf of the University Council, the chairman Prof. HG Merz summarised the results of the vote, saying:
»Mr. Henrici’s commitment, his well-defined views of his future work, his wish to cultivate the legend of the Bauhaus, his youthful vigour and ability to achieve consensus convinced the University Council. We look forward to the coming years and wish Mr. Henrici as much success as his predecessor in defending the core issues of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.«
University President and chairman of the selection committee, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karl Beucke, also responded very positively to the Council’s vote. »I am convinced that we have found an excellent candidate for this important position. Not only does Dr. Henrici possess the necessary intuitive qualities of a Kanzler (Vice-President) but also the wherewithal to make and implement all of the necessary decisions.«
Dr. Henrici immediately accepted the result of the election. Speaking at a small reception at the Bauhaus.Atelier, he said: »I am very much looking forward to being the Kanzler (Vice-President) of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar starting January 2015. I greatly appreciate the goodwill and enormous show of trust I received during the three phases of the selection process. For me, this is both a mandate and source of motivation.«
