Application for Exchange Students

Please note: We only accept exchange students from universities with which we have a partnership agreement (no ‘free movers’). Theses cannot be supervised as part of your exchange programme.

STEP 1: 
Application at your home university

The first step towards spending a semester abroad at the Bauhaus-Universität is to apply to your home university. Please contact your university’s International Office for further information.

STEP 2: 
Nomination by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Following a successful application at your home university, your home university will nominate you for a semester abroad with us.

STEP 3: 
Application to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

As soon as we have confirmed your nomination, you will receive an email containing a link to our online application portal. There, you can apply to spend a semester abroad at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

When will you receive a response?

We will review your application once the application deadline has passed. Processing may take up to 6 weeks.

• Winter semester: response in June
• Summer semester: Response in December

Letter of Acceptance

If you are accepted, you will receive your Letter of Acceptance by email.

Once you have been nominated by your home university, you can submit an application for an exchange place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar during the following periods:

Please note
that the welcome events and the intensive German language course at the Bauhaus University Language Centre (compulsory and free of charge for all students whose German level is below B1) take place before the start of the lecture period. 

For the Bauhaus winter semester: in September
For the Bauhaus summer semester: in March

Please bear these dates in mind when planning your journey.

Once you have been nominated by your home university and we have sent you the link to our ‘Bauhaus Portal for Incoming Students’, you must submit the following documents:

1. Letter of motivation 
   Please explain in 1–2 pages why you would like to study at Bauhaus University and what particularly interests you about your chosen degree programme.

2. Proof of language skills (German)
   Detailed information on German language skills requirements here.
3. Proof of language skills (English)
   Detailed information on English language skills can be found here.
4. Transcript of Records 
   An overview of the courses you have taken so far at your home university. Together with your language certificates, the Transcript of Records) helps us to assess your academic suitability for your chosen degree programme at the Bauhaus-Universität.
5. Bachelor’s degree certificate (for Master’s students only)
   If you are applying for a Master’s programme at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, please upload your Bachelor’s degree certificate (as a scan or copy) with your application.
6. Portfolio (only for applications to the Faculty of Art and Design)
   If you are applying for a degree programme at the Faculty of Art and Design, please upload a portfolio via the online form, the content of which is tailored to the relevant degree programme (file size max. 10 MB).
