Complete as many everyday journeys as possible by bike in a climate- and health-friendly way for 21 days – that’s the goal of Climate Alliance’s international CITY CYCLING campaign. Last year, 128 people joined the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s team and cycled over 19,000 kilometres – That’s roughly equivalent to the distance from Weimar to Dhaka in Bangladesh and back. Can we maybe break the 20,000 kilometre mark this year?
All university members are warmly invited to join the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar team and to help avoid CO2 emissions and to work together to improve the local cycling infrastructure. Every kilometre counts – whether it is cycled for private or professional purposes. The Sparkasse Mittelthüringen savings bank will donate one cent for every kilometre travelled to projects to improve cycling in Weimar.
Registration and Participation:
1. Registration is free and can be done here: https://www.stadtradeln.de/index.php?id=171&L=0&city_preselect=1028
2. Join the »Bauhaus-Universität Weimar« team
3. Record all of the kilometres you cycle during the local campaign period from 1 to 21 May – either enter them on the website or track them directly via the app
»Our university is quite spread out across the city, so cycling, along with walking, is absolutely the mode of transport for many university members. I see each cyclist as an ambassador for a beautiful city made for cycling, a mode of transport that is fast, practical, quiet and emission-free. Our presence reinforces the notion that good and safe infrastructure is still needed here and there. My hope is that CITY CYCLING will encourage even more people to cycle«, says Tina Fedderson from the Transport System Planning Department at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
Three events have been scheduled to which all interested parties are warmly invited to attend:
Kick-off bike ride on 6 May at 4.30 pm
Refresher ride, 15 May 4.30 pm, »3 Türme-Runde«
Final bike ride on 21 May at 4.30 pm
It’s well worth taking part – not just for the sake of the environment
Climate Alliance awards first-rate cycling-related prizes on the national level to the teams that cycle the most kilometres on average.
