Putting Digitalisation to the Test: Markus Boden Wins IT Young Talent Competition

Markus Boden studied Management [Bau Immobilien Infrastruktur] (Management / Construction, Real Estate and Infrastructure) at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. His Master's thesis included developing a free tool that helps small and mid-sized companies and public organisations to digitalise their processes step by step. »The tool is based on an online questionnaire that identifies potential for optimisation and the degree of digitalisation in the form of a traffic light«, explains Boden.

But participants are not left to fend for themselves with the results: The European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar provides support for entrepreneurs on their way to digitalisation. The European support network offers training and advice on financing and business models in the fields of mobility and logistics, IT infrastructure and software, construction, energy and resources, tourism, industrial production, and healthcare.

»BAU 2025« in Munich

The digitalisation tool is now being presented at »BAU«, the world’s leading trade fair, in Munich. From 13 to 17 January, staff from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Bauhaus Further Education Academy will be showcasing how the next generation of engineers will be prepared for challenges in the fields of construction, real estate, and infrastructure. Exhibits include drone-based aerial photography and 3D visualisations of buildings, robot-assisted building monitoring, intelligent building materials and innovative solutions for climate and energy, waste and resources, water and mobility. 2025 is the first year that the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be present as a exhibitor with their own booth in Hall A4, the trade fair’s innovation hub.

»Built on IT – A Career in Construction with a Future«

The »RKW Kompetenzzentrum« competition is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and was initiated in 2002. It is organised by social partnerships in the construction industry and supported by numerous sponsors and media partnerships. The broad range of work submitted highlights how up-and-coming talent from the construction industry is shaping the future of the sector with the help of digitalisation and artificial intelligence.
