Focus on people: Building for a liveable future

Overheated tempers, stuffy air and deafening noise – whether we are productive and feel comfortable depends crucially on the conditions of the space we inhabit. Physical factors such as temperature, air quality and sound insulation should therefore be considered at the planning stage and implemented to meet the specific utilisation requirements. At the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, engineers and architects will engage in interdisciplinary discussions on the interactions between buildings, people and the environment, as well as the necessary reforms to existing building standards.

»Well-being in living and working spaces is becoming increasingly important. At the same time, the requirements for multifunctional room designs that adhere to rigorous energy and environmental standards are on the rise«, explains Prof. Dr. Conrad Völker, Chair of the Professorship of Building Physics at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. This year’s conference will therefore focus on topics such as energy supply, renovation, heat and moisture protection, fire prevention, indoor air quality, and building and room acoustics. The necessary procedures, processes and calculation methods derived from current research and practice will be presented and discussed in more than 50 lectures.

The Building Physics Days take place every two years at various venues. This year, the conference is being hosted at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for the first time in five years. The event is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, 6 March, and will feature a welcoming address by University President Prof. Peter Benz at the Hörsaalgebäude. The two conference days will kick off with engaging keynote speeches by Prof. Dr. Philip Leistner of Fraunhofer IBP, University of Stuttgart, and Prof. Dr. Runa T. Hellwig of Aalborg University.
