Courage to oppose racism: Thuringian state meeting on racism in schools to take place on the campus of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
The offers will range from formats for Year 1 pupils to workshops for teachers; from music, dance and painting projects to debating skills training and exchange formats. The programme also includes a guided tour of the town, which was developed during the Faculty of Media’s »Decolonize Weimar« project: Decolonize Weimar – Decolonial Map and Tours of Weimar
During an Opportunities Fair in the lunch break, all participants and interested parties will have the opportunity to learn more about the various initiatives going on in Weimar to combat racism and campaign for diversity and democracy. It will take place in the foyer of the Mensa am Park between noon and 2 pm.
»We’re delighted that our cooperation partner, the European youth education centre in Weimar (EJBW), with whom we also work closely within the Weltoffenes Thüringen initiative is organising the Thuringian state meeting of ›Schools without Racism‹ at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar this year. This will help lend greater visibility to this important topic,« explains University President Professor Peter Benz, who will give a welcome address during opening of the state meeting.
For racial discrimination doesn’t only exist at schools, but also at universities: the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar constantly grapples with the issue of racism. Last year, the Diversity Department made racism its focus and organised a variety of events, seminars and workshops on the subject. One outcome was the concept of a »university critical of racism,« which will be discussed in university committees this autumn and aims to ensure that long-term measures are put in place.
