CITY CYCLING 2025: Cycling Together – Making a Difference Together

Complete as many everyday journeys as possible by bike in a climate- and health-friendly way for 21 days – that’s the goal of Climate Alliance’s international CITY CYCLING campaign. Last year, 67 people joined the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s team and cycled over 11,000 kilometres – This is roughly equivalent to cycling from Weimar to all of the partner universities in the BAUHAUS4EU Network.

All members of the university are warmly invited to join the university team to help avoid CO2 emissions and work together to improve the cycling infrastructure in our town. Every kilometre counts – whether it is cycled for private or professional purposes. The Sparkasse Mittelthüringen savings bank will donate one cent for every kilometre travelled to projects to improve cycling in Weimar.

Doing Double the Good: For the Environment and for the »Kabel & Faden« Repai Café

This year, all participants are invited to pedal for the »Kabel & Faden« repair café. The project was founded last year and is hoping to expand its services in the future. One of the plans is to set up a self-serve bike workshop where minor bike problems can be fixed and older bikes can be restored.

The campaign period will also be used to increase the visibility of cycling-related projects and events. Anyone planning thematically suitable activities is welcome to register them by e-mailing stadtradeln@stadtweimar.de. The events will then be shared on the city’s campaign page www.stadtradeln.de/weimar.

Registration and Participation:

1.     Registration is free and can be done here: https://www.stadtradeln.de/index.php?id=171&L=0&team_preselect=27067

2.     Join the »Bauhaus-Universität Weimar« team
3.     Record all of the kilometres you cycle during the local campaign period from 24.05 to 13.06 (either enter them on the website or track them directly via the app).

»Weimar has everything that a real cycling city needs: short distances, a flat city centre, and lots of nature all around. Yet bicycles are not often seen as equal means of transport in everyday life. We want to change that – together! CITY CYCLING shows just how many there are of us and the potential there is in cycling. So get on your bike – whether to work, school, or in your free time – and cycle together for a climate-friendly, bicycle-friendly Weimar!« says Julius Uhlmann from the Professorship of Transport System Planning at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Climate Alliance awards first-rate cycling-related prizes on the national level to the teams that cycle the most kilometres on average. See the campaign website for details: www.city-cycling.org

Cargo Bike for Hire for Students and Staff

The StuKo (Student Government) Department for Mobility also supports city cycling at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. To make collecting kilometres even easier - especially when transporting larger items or shopping - students and employees can use the cargo bikes from the student cargo bike rental service lasti.bau-ha.us. The free use of these bikes not only supports sustainable mobility, but also strengthens the community's commitment to a bicycle-friendly Weimar.

Further information can be found under:

We also encourage you to join the Bauhaus.Chat group at: matrix.to. Participants can exchange ideas and plan cycling tours here.
For questions, please contact Steven Mac Nelly, Environmental Officer at steven.mac.nelly[at]uni-weimar.de, or Carolin Wick, Personnel Development and Heath Management, at personalentwicklung@uni-weimar.de.

Liability: Participation in CITY CYCLING is voluntary and at cyclists’ own risk.
