Die Vorlesungsreihe behandelt schlaglichtartig Einzelthemen der Geschichte der Stadt und des Städtebaus. Sie beschäftigt sich mit der Genese morphologischer und struktureller Muster, die in Jahrhunderten der Stadtentwicklung entstanden und bis heute in der physischen Gestalt der Stadt sowie den Praktiken des städtebaulichen Entwerfens wirksam sind. Die Vorlesung verbindet im Wechsel historische mit aktuellen Betrachtungen und soll so dazu beitragen, die Stadt von heute in ihrer Historizität besser zu verstehen.
History of the City and Urban Design
The lecture series deals with individual topics of the history of the city and urban design. It deals with the genesis of morphological and structural patterns that emerged during centuries of urban development and are still effective today in the physical form of the city as well as in the practices of urban design. The lecture alternately combines historical with contemporary considerations and thus aims to contribute to a better understanding of the city of today in its historicity.
