One of the greatest potentials of the small Hanseatic city of Stralsund is its location on the water. For the urban development of the old shipyard site, the project proposes to continue this history and create a place where the connection to the water can be experienced in many ways. For this purpose, the canal will be extended on the basis of the historic water's edge. A promenade offers an attractive path for strolling from the Ozeaneum to the Rügenbrücke. The development proposal includes uses such as a campus, a pumping station with a climate-friendly seawater heat pump, mixed use with living and working as well as pure residential development on the south side of the canal. The existing buildings are integrated into the open perimeter block development and mark its central squares. The cultural center is being formed around the Strahlwerk, while a new mobility center is being created at the new southern harbor opposite the Rügendamm train station. Here, alternative services to motorized transport such as a water cab, bicycle rental and autonomous shuttle buses will help to make the island car-free.
