Manifest of Practice

12th Homage to Morteza Momayez
Presentation of works and lecture of Prof. Markus Weisbeck and the Space for Visual Research at Iranian Artists Forum
Framed by the Exhibition »12th Homage to Morteza Momayez«, a curated selection of 42 Posters, 6 visual Experiments and 30 works by students of the graphic design class at the Faculty of Art and Design at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and by Prof. Markus Weisbeck, Visual Communication, will be exhibited in Iranian Artists Forum from 24 November till 1 December 2017.
The SPACE FOR VISUAL RESEARCH was established at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in 2013 as a workshop and laboratory for experimental research into new graphic, abstract and visual worlds. The Space’s mission is to support the exploratory urge for new aesthetics, in particular by empowering design students to create their own individual imagery. The Space provides a set of specific experiments as starting points, ready to be questioned, interpreted and adapted in a progressive context that culminates in students’ devising and undertaking their own experiments.
The works will be exhibited at Exhibition Hall 2.
The work of Markus Weisbeck is concerned with the development and exploration of visual forms, taking the visual principles of academic-artistic teachings on modernism in the relevant schools, institutes and colleges of the 20th century as a base. Addressing the themes of composition aesthetics or composition gravitations, the methods of these teachings investigate experiments that can lead to the recovery of two- and three-dimensional topologies. Specifically these methods of modernity, as taught at Black Mountain College in Chicago and later the Ulm School of Design, subsequently gave rise to experiments towards form and composition libraries. Until now they form the base for design today and are deeply rooted in our collective visual consciousness. The studies are less a reference to modernity, but their methodologies should rather be understood as a departure from pure image as an artistic expression, regardless of an academic art or applied art education.
Prof. Weisbecks works will also be exhibited at Exhibition Hall
Besides working for notable brands, Markus Weisbeck is increasingly busy in the fields of contemporary and performing arts, architecture, music and exhibition Weisbeck’s conceptual approach of design and strategy derives solely from the content of the enquirer and develops accordingly. Numerous projects were developed for non-specific areas and published as author-design.
42 Posters will be displayed at Exhibition Hall 1.

Brno Biennial 2018 — Call for Entries
The 28th International Biennial of Graphic Design Brno 2018 will take place from 10/5 to 26/8/2018. Since 1963, the Brno Biennial has been an important international show of visual culture. Curators of the 28th Brno Biennial edition are Matěj Činčera, Jan Kloss and Adam Štěch, members of the creative group OKOLO. This years edition will open a democratic platform to represent the complete scope of the discipline with all of its different meanderings and characteristics of graphic design projects. The universal view should introduce contemporary graphic design in the full multiplicity of its facets, giving rise to an inspiring mosaic of different opinions and attitudes by opening up discussion across the whole of its breadth which engages both experts and the general public.

ABCstract — Kai Middendorff Galerie

ANSCHLAG – BERLIN
13. May – 22. May 2016
Direktorenhaus Berlin, Am Krögel 2
Vernissage at May 13th, 8pm.
»Anschlag Berlin – Zeitgeistmedium Plakat« in Berlin.
After its successful first exhibition at the Weltformat Festival in Luzern, the design initiative ANSCHLAG BERLIN shows its works at the Direktorenhaus Berlin.
The exhibition provides an overview of contemporary poster design in Berlin. Over 100 posters by newcomers as well as renowned design studios such as Cyan, LSD, HeSign, Patrick Thomas, Ruddigkeit, Ariane Spanier, Studio Laucke Siebein, m23, Eike König and many others will be on display.
With this exhibition, the curators Fons Hickmann and Sven-Lindhorst Emme, both internationally renowned poster designers, present a wide spectrum of artistic work crossing the imaginary boundary between art and design. After Luzern and Berlin, the exhibition will be held in China next year.
»In Berlin, the NEW comes into the world. Posters are the perfect medium to communicate the Zeitgeist.« One can speak of a »Berlin School« in poster design, that has been shaping the aesthetics of visual culture for the past 100 years – and that still influences popular culture, design and art today. The poster established itself as an independent art medium.
The catalogue »Anschlag Berlin« was published by Seltmann+Söhne. The website www.anschlag-berlin.de will soon be launched.

– Michael Johansson
Michael Johansson deals with ordinary objects that we all recognise, but in a way far from the ordinary. Driven by the agenda to densify and categorize the world, found objects are morphed into precisely stacked rectangular shapes, connected to a certain place, where their original purpose
is transformed and they are reformed into models of themselves. Johansson currently works in Berlin and Malmö.
This lecture is part of the series “aus dem Nähkästchen…” at the Chair of Media, Trend and Public Appearance. This lecture will be held in English.

Projektil 2013 – Manuel Bürger
Slippery Design
Description: Slippery design calls for balance and order, leads nowhere and shows us worlds. Slippery design creates fields of meaning, mimesis in relations, lines of flight to oppositions. Slppry Dsgn controlls the game with semiotic shreds, it speaks in syllables, not in sentences. Slippery design relies on distribution through irritation, mutation, failures ~ causes discourses to totter. Slippery design is the true spirit of the meme, the virtuosity of us amateurs.
Manuel Bürger is a designer based in Berlin and we’re happy to announce that he is holding a lecture as well as a workshop as part of the Projektil lecture series.

betterbauhaus is now new-tendency
As some of you might have noticed the website and facebooksite of my bauhaus is better than yours are not accessible anymore. They are very sorry about that.
Less than three weeks ago they received a letter from a well-known german hardware store saying that they would trespass their trademarks rights. First they believed it was a joke since they had always referred to the historical Bauhaus in a humorous way. They had to enter into negotiations but discovered soon that the opposing party was not willing to agree to any compromises. Plus there was only little chance to win against a company with millions of annual turnover.
So they had to make an immediate decision and they direct now into a NEW TENDENCY which became their new trademark. We would invite you to check out their new web and Facebook spaces.
