Literature on Academic Writing

Thanks to a cooperation with the university library young scientists can now use more up to date literature on academic writing. For docotroal candidates and the users of our BRS work stations we offer a special service: we established a "Handapparat" (a local stock of literature) in our rooms:

  • Wissenschaftssprache Deutsch (2011)
  • Einführung in die deutsche Sprache der Wissenschaften (2009)
  • MLA handbook for writers of research papers (2009)
  • Academic writing. A handbook for international students. (2011)
  • A manual for writers of research papers, theses, and dissertations (7. Ausgabe, 2007)
  • Academic vocabulary in use (5. Ausgabe, 2011)
  • Academic Writing from paragraph to essay (2005)
  • Langenscheidt pocket Vietnamese dictionary
  • Langenscheidt pocket Mandarin Chinese dictionary
  • A dictionary of modern written Arabic
  • Oxford Essential Arabic Dictionary

Temporary workplaces

The Bauhaus Research School has a small number of temporary workplaces at Marienstraße 14, which are distributed over several rooms (not individual offices). These can be provided for a maximum period of 1 year for your research activities.

Extensions are possible in certain cases. You will receive access to the premises with your thoska card and can use the workstation around the clock. All workstations offer you access to the university-wide network (WLAN), and some are equipped with a centrally administered computer.

In addition, a few workstations without computer technology can be requested for short-term use (max. 3 months).

The prerequisite for usage is that you do not have another workstation of your own at the university. You can apply for a workstation if you:

› are admitted to do a doctorate at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar; or
› are pursuing a Postdoc project at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar or
› are a doctoral candidate with a scholarship from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar or
› are an invited guest researcher at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (informal confirmation by your prospective supervisor).

Currently no workplaces available, you can apply for a place on the waiting list.

The decision on the allocation of workplaces is made together with the "Pro.Doc" (doctoral council) according to availability and taking into account social criteria (e.g. care of children, relatives).

There are 2 types of workplaces at the BRS:
Type A comes fully equipped with a computer, monitor, keyboard, wireless LAN, storage containers and cabinets.
Type B provides a desk, chair, cabinet space and access to wireless LAN, however it does not include IT infrastructure.

To apply please fill out this form.

The university library also offers computer workstations (with or without login). You can find more information here: www.uni-weimar.de/de/universitaet/struktur/zentrale-einrichtungen/universitaetsbibliothek/service/technische-und-sonstige-ausstattung/
