Safety Stay Abroad

Your adventure to study abroad will soon begin.
We hope that your preparations are going well and that you have received all the information from your host university to make your start easier.

We would like to ask you to regularly inform yourself about the current entry regulations, the security situation and important cultural features in your host country before your departure.

***

Where can you find information?

Travel warnings

  • The German Federal Foreign Office provides daily updates on travel warnings.
  • The German Federal Foreign Office also maintains a website with country-specific safety warnings, as well as the "Sicher-Reisen" app for your mobile phone.
  • You may also register for the newsletter of the German Federal Foreign Office.
  • If you are a German citizen, please register on the German Foreign Office's list of crisis precautions (ELEFAND): https://krisenvorsorgeliste.diplo.de/signin. This will enable the German consulate abroad to provide you with security advice.

Corona risk areas and entry regulations

  • The German Federal Foreign Office website provides information on COVID-19-related travel warnings and partial travel warnings.
  • The Robert Koch Institute updates the list of international risk areas and virus variant areas daily.
  • Please also visit the website of your host university for information on corona management there.

For ERASMUS students

  • The DAAD has prepared a page on its website on the most frequently asked questions regarding ERASMUS and COVID-19. You are welcome to use this resource as well.
  • The EU Commission has compiled all the important information on country-specific requirements regarding entry and quarantine regulations on its website "Re-open EU".

What else should you consider?

Your health and safety during your studies abroad have top priority.
Please also ensure that you have sufficient insurance cover for stays in areas with a travel warning and in the event of a pandemic. This is particularly important in view of the fact that not all foreign health insurance policies cover this.

What happens if you decide against mobility due to safety concerns?

If you have concerns about your safety on site or if you are denied entry to the host country without this being foreseeable in advance, please contact us and we will try to find a solution together.
