Topics and measures

Focus topic 2025: Classism

The social background of peole continues to have an enormous influence on educational opportunities and educational pathways.

The DZHW's 2024 education funnel shows the extent to which the parental educational background still influences the chance of going to university: For every 100 children from academic families, 78 start a university degree; for children from non-academic families, the figure is only 25 out of 100. However, first-generation academics face particular challenges not only in gaining access to higher education, but also in everyday life at university. Classism — discrimination and disadvantage based on social background — is omnipresent at universities.

During the theme year, various measures will be developed and implemented that focus on classism at the university:

  • Literature collection on »Social participation and social access«: Digital collection and display case in the university library
  • Bauhaus.Module in WiSe 2025/26 on the topic of classism
  • Website with information for first-generation academics (in preparation)

Focus Topic 2024: Racism

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar's diversity strategy stipulates that, in addition to overarching measures, the university will develop target group-specific programmes and focus on topics that address the specific needs and requirements of certain disadvantaged or discriminated groups.

In 2024, we focused on racism at the university. Over the course of the year, there were various workshops, events and films that dealt with the topic of racism. A concept for a racism-critical university is in preparation.
