Languages connect. This can be seen this year in the popular German course »Deutsch in Weimar«, which is at the core of the Bauhaus Summer School. Around 110 participants from all over the word have registered for the three-and-a-half-week intensive course to improve their German skills. Especially welcome news: 15 students will receive a full scholarship through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and, thanks to »Bauhaus Navigator Funding«, around 35 international students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will also receive subsidies. Nine highly motivated students from abroad are also part of the DAAD BIDS scholarship programme. They are currently learning German intensively in their home countries and will have the opportunity to get their first taste of university life in Thuringia.
In addition to the German intensive courses, the Bauhaus Summer School is also offering seven specialist courses in the fields of architecture and urbanism, art and design, and technology and the environment. A special highlight is the »Art & the Senses« course, which looks at perceiving the world through our senses – seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, and smelling. Exploring sensory experiences is intended to encourage the participants’ creative thinking, strengthen the narratives of their projects, and provide fresh inspiration in various disciplines. In the »Documentary Storytelling« course, participants will be introduced to the fascinating world of documentary storytelling. Students will be encouraged to explore Weimar visually while gaining practical insights into camera, sound, and interview techniques.
An additional highlight is the weekend course »Räume im Transformation«: Participants will spend three days in Vesser, a small village in the middle of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Thuringian Forest, where they will explore aspects of social and ecological change in the region. They will be immersed in the local history and engage in conversation with contemporary witnesses.
Diverse Supporting Programme for Students
The afternoons and weekends offer students the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of leisure activities. City trips, excursions into the countryside, sports, pub nights — there’s something for everyone. Thanks to a cooperation with the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, the city’s museum’s and castles are free of charge for students this year.
A special highlight is the international dinner on campus at the university. Participants present typical dishes from their home countries and learn about culinary classics from all around the world in a festive atmosphere. This year, in addition to handling administrative matters, the course office will be offering freshly baked waffles and inviting participants to engage in cosy conversation to get to know one another.
Final Presentation
To wind down the event, participants present the results of their courses. This year’s Bauhaus Summer School final presentation will take place under the slogan »Open Ateliers« on Friday, 29 August. The event kicks off at 2 pm on the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus at Geschwister-Scholl-Straße. All those interested are welcome to join.
