Works of Art Take Over Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Administrative Offices

»The response to our request about who would be able to make their office available for the exhibition was overwhelming«, says nova space curator Katharina Wendler. »We were pleasantly surprised at the amount of interest and support we received.« The exhibition explores the tension between administrative structure and artistic practice. In a world marked by crises, complexity and regulations, it poses the question: Where do we find empathy, hope, and connection nowadays? And: Can art and bureaucracy be brought closer together?

»Bureaucracy is often perceived as restrictive, especially in the artistic and creative sector. However, creative processes are unthinkable without the ›apparatus‹ of administration. At the same time, there is often a lot of creativity in office work and many artists have made this their own«, says Wendler.

nova space is symbolically and physically abolishing the spatial separation between the two, bringing art to where it is often only indirectly involved: the centre of university administration. The artistic approaches infiltrate the individual working environments, merging with routine processes and opening up new perspectives on what office work can be: a space for potential encounters and friction, but also a space for appreciation and humanity.

The exhibited works are by students, instructors, and international artists. Some were created prior to the exhibition and adapted to fit the context, while others were made specifically for the exhibition. The exhibition can be visited as part of regularly scheduled weekly tours. »Liebe in Zeiten der Bürokratie« invites visitors to examine everyday office life from a new perspective and to uncover new insights into the exchange between art and administration.
