The walk-in installation »Formel:Marionette_Leipzig« has been part of the GfZK Leipzig’s collection since 2017 and is currently on view in the exhibition »Dynamic Spaces« (12 April 2025 – 29 March 2026), curated by Julia Eckert and Franciska Zólyom. In response to the piece, the PANAS students will translate their own artistic contributions into symbolic codes and visual vocabularies, which will be inserted into the sculpture’s pre-existing system of signs and gestures.
The result is a six-hour performance that explores a possible future format of transcultural, multilingual and public participation. Using the structural framework of Weber’s artwork, the students continually rearrange their interventions. In interaction with the diverse and shifting audience of the Long Night of Museums, their gestures challenge and shift the roles of artwork, artist and spectator. A public exchange of thoughts accompanies the performance, generating shared stories in real time.
With its unique linguistic diversity – currently encompassing Arabic, Turkish, Spanish, English, Persian, Chinese, Thai, Kurdish, Serbian, Cantonese, Italian, and German – PANAS actively addresses and includes a multilingual audience.
