Radio in Germany is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2023. To mark this occasion, the artistic research project »Listening to the World – 100 Years of Radio« is exploring listening as a global phenomenon. Sound artists and researchers as well as radio practitioners and theorists came together in Montevideo (March 2023) and Manila/Sagada (August 2023) to examine the past, present and future of regional and transregional listening during workshops. On 21 and 22 October 2023, the preliminary outcomes of the cooperative project between the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Goethe-Institut and Deutschlandfunk Kultur will now be presented at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin.

Am Freitag, 22. September 2023, 16 Uhr, beschließt die vierte Episode der Jubiläumsausstellung »POWER HOUSE« im Schiller-Museum ihre Laufzeit mit einer besonderen Veranstaltung: Die partizipative Klangperformance »walk in waves« des Kollektivs »rundfunkorchestra« bezieht sowohl die Besucher*innen als auch den gesamten Ausstellungsraum ein. Das technische Herzstück der Performance, der »Funkstern Plus«, wurde jüngst vom Freistaat Sachsen ausgezeichnet. Interessierte sind herzlich eingeladen, sich zu beteiligen.

On Friday 29 September 2023 from 6 to 10 p.m., the fifth episode of the »POWER HOUSE« exhibition series will open in Weimar’s Schiller-Museum. The series marks the 100th anniversary of the first Bauhaus exhibition. nova space, the University Gallery of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, is hosting the exhibition under the title »energy rising« in reference to the many forms of energy flow.

With their joint Bachelor’s thesis on a type of low-emission biocement entitled »The Essence of Biocement«, the two Produktdesign (Product Design) alumni of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar have reached the international selection round of the renowned James Dyson Award as runners-up in the Germany-wide competition. Each year, the competition calls on innovative students and recent graduates of product and industrial design and engineering degree programs worldwide to submit pioneering projects.

Der rechtliche Schutz der eigenen Idee oder der selbst entwickelten Technologie ist einer der wichtigsten Meilensteine für Startups. An der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar unterstützt die Erfinderberatungsstelle im Dezernat Forschung Professor*innen und Mitarbeitende dabei, ihr geistiges Eigentum zu sichern. Auch Studierende, die sich mit ihrer im Studium entwickelten Innovation selbstständig machen möchten, können sich dort informieren. So begann auch der Weg des 2022 gegründeten Unternehmens »E-TERRY« um Bauhaus-Alumnus Michael Rieke und die beiden Professoren Dr. Jan Willmann und Andreas Mühlenberend im Jahr 2018. Im Juni dieses Jahres konnte die Patentfamilie für den selbstfahrenden Agrarroboter von der Universität an das Start-up verkauft werden.

Beatriz Oria Lombardía’s Master's thesis, »(non-)local lab«, received an award at this year’s German Design Graduates »Dare to Design« show at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar graduate won over the jury in the category of »Research and Transfer« with her interactive knowledge transfer based project dedicated to addressing the issue and potential of invasive plant species in Thuringia. The award comes with a 2,500 euro prize.

Die Absolvent*innen Leon Billerbeck, Leonie Fischer und Jakob Kukula präsentieren von 1. bis 16. September ein besonderes Projekt in Berlin: Unter dem Titel »WEWATER - SPREEVISION« versammelt die interdisziplinäre Ausstellung rund um das Thema »Wasser« zwanzig unterschiedliche Beiträge aus Kunst, Design, Architektur und Wissenschaft. Die Arbeiten erforschen, wie uns Wasser zum Umdenken bringen und der Fluss die Stadt umgestalten könnte.

From 1 September to 8 October 2023, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) will present 53 outstanding graduates from 23 renowned German design and art academies from the fields of product and industrial design under the title »Dare to Design«, including five works from the degree programme in product design. Initiated and curated by German Design Graduates of the German Design Council, the presentation offers an overview of the most current positions of young design from Germany like no other exhibition. The annual group exhibition is being held at the MK&G for the first time.

At the renowned media art festival »Ars Electronica« in Linz, a total of 29 artists from the Faculty of Art and Design will be exhibiting their works in the »Campus« area from 6 to 10 September 2023. Under the title »Non-machines: Playground of Perspectives«, these artists will enrich the festival programme with contemporary debates and works from the »Media Art and Design« degree programme.

Digitisation in schools is advancing in leaps and bounds. Special digital learning and teaching aids are to be used in the further training of sports, music and art teachers as well as the associated subject lessons. As part of the nationwide competence network »lernen:digital« (learning:digital), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research is funding the sub-project »Digitisation-related and digitally-supported professionalisation of sports, music and art teachers« (DigiProSMK) with around 7 million euros. At Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Andrea Dreyer, Professorship of Art and its Didactics, is participating in the project with regard to art teaching.
