Pro-GREEN-LABs: Promoting Green Competences for Integrated Sustainable Development in Architectural Education through Experiential, Lab-based, Active Learning
The EU-funded project Pro-GREEN-LABs aims to strengthen green competences in architectural education and support sustainable transformation in higher education. With nearly €800,000 in support from the Erasmus+ programme, the project is running for three years under the coordination of the Chair of Urban Studies and Social Research at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
The project focuses on addressing gaps between academic theory and professional practice, as well as between technical and social aspects of architectural education. Its aim is to build key green competences among students and educators, supporting them to address challenges of urban sustainability. To achieve this, five practice-oriented »Joint Labs« will be established, bringing together eight universities in Germany, Italy, Sweden, Egypt, and Jordan, along with local partners. These labs will serve as innovation centers in which students, instructors, and local stakeholders will collaborate to upgrade curriculum development and applied research. One key goal is the creation of a new Master's programme at the University of Petra, alongside new modules at four additional universities.
In integrating environmental, social, and urban issues in architectural education, Pro-GREEN-LABs helps shape sustainable cities and equips future professionals with capacities to respond to the complex issues of sustainable urban development.
