HORIZONTE VERANSTALTUNGEN im NOVEMBER 2023

HORIZONTE - EINE RETROSPEKTIVE
27.11. bis 1.12.2023

From the 27th of November until the 1st of December, 'Horizonte' opens up its archives and a discussion table, daily from 11:00-15:00.

The goal is to reflect critically upon, the initiative's past and to open up a space for discussions about its future and about the future of discourse in a broader sense.

What is the architecture that is and was talked about? What isn’t talked about? Which role has the initiative taken up in the past, and what could its role be in the future? Are the initiatives formats still up to date or is there a need for change? How does the architectural discipline represent itself? Who is publishing, why, and for whom?

Come by, get a coffee, and discuss with us.

HORIZONTE RELEASE PARTY
28.11.2023

Horizonte magazine release on Tuesday the 28th of November in "Mensa am Park" Weimar from 18:00 to 22:00.

Considering the 30th anniversary of Horizonte, the magazine takes up the theme of last winter's lecture series "Ageing". The release is part of a one-week exhibition, which reflects critically upon the past of Horizonte and wishes to open the space for discussions about the future of the initiative and about discourse more generally.

Thanks to everybody who contributed to this issue of Horizonte.

Special thanks to 23ideas to make this issue possible.

SINGULARITY (jk) but hey, maybe: a deja-vu. We're in tune with the world. Why? Damn, shit’s about to #doomsday #climatecrisis #lastgeneration #ragnarök Like, c’mon, the mamas and the papas lived a life we feel guilty about for even thinking of. But we’re thankful for this (amen— or towards new spiritualities). Every crisis is a chance. We just have to commit. Like, for just THINK and you will single handedly deal with the extractivist and capitalist systems that are growing bigger with every year with the same old, same old.

We conclude: the zeitgeist is constituted by cosmological uncertainties, fears, and anxieties.

Oedipal exorcism—kill our father (THE ARCHITECT) and marry our mother (EARTH), and become infamous? Nah, why not just try to become famous instead?

The problem though is that all of the above is very meta. Like, pull out your phone, and scroll a bit, pull out a magazine and flip through. What do you see? Everyone is constantly posting and publishing. Why are we trying so hard to be alchemists and turn shit into gold? Where is the content? Or let’s just take what is in front of us seriously, and treat it as what it is: Everything is a performance, we’re all LARPing all the time, our life is a stage—for what though? Where it is no longer important what you do and how you do it, rather how you represent it and what other people think of it—needless to say that they have only consumed your representation.

We want to take a look at both sides of the medal—what is the architecture that is talked about?

What isn’t talked about? How does this shape the architectural discipline? How does the architectural discipline represent itself? Who is publishing, why, and for whom? Who is the architectonic subject? And, can this question, can architecture be a tool for (collective) self-reflection as well as tool for (collective) self-(de-)construction? So: How do we understand ourselves?
