Arrival and Orientation

You are accepted for one of the Bauhaus Spring School courses and "ready to go"? Wonderful! In the following, we will give you a few tips on how to get to Weimar and your first steps here.

  • 16.-17/03: Excursions
  • 18/03: Start of the courses
  • 22/03: Last course day, open ateliers
  • 23/03: Departure

In order to be ideally prepared for your stay in our beautiful cultural and university city, we will send you a "final information" approximately 3 weeks before the in-class course starts. In this document you will find a summary of all important information for the start of the course (timetable, directions, contact information etc.). It is best to print or download this document so that you can have the "Spring School Timetable" at hand during your trip even without internet access.

 

Pre-arrival Checklist

  • Apply for visa (if needed)
  • organize health and home insurance
  • In case you will not arrive within the official arrival times, please notify the Bauhaus Spring School team (springschool@uni-weimar.de)
  • Join the WhatsApp-group (invitation will come after the admission via email)
  • Get packed: do not forget your travel documents, clothes (also for cold weather), adapter, LAN cable if necessary

The arrival day of Bauhaus Spring School 2024 is Thursday, March 14th. We will be welcoming you from 11.00 am to 8:00 pm in the entrance hall of Weimar central station. At our welcome desk, you will receive your welcome bag as well as all information you need for a succesful start in Weimar.  

 

Travel Routes

By plane
If you are travelling by plane, you should fly to Berlin, Frankfurt, Leipzig or Erfurt airports, since they offer the most convenient rail connections to Weimar.

By train
A number of fast and Intercity trains from several directions stop at Weimar station. Weimar can be easily reached by train from Berlin (2 hours 30 mins); Frankfurt (2 hours 30 mins); Leipzig (1 hour); Erfurt (15 mins). The railway station in Weimar is north of the city centre, which is easily accessible within a few minutes either by bus or on foot.

By car
Weimar is close to the A4 highway (exit Weimar). This can easily be reached from the A7 highway (Kirchheimer Dreieck) and the A9 highway (Hermsdorfer Kreuz).
