The aim of the project is to design a temporary pavilion as vitrine to promote the famous art collection of the “Stiftung Schloss Friedenstein Gotha” and to give an inside in the baroque universe of the castle and museum. The task is to identify places alongside the tourist trails and close to important points of intersection in the city to inform and orient people and to stimulate a dialog.
Description: Fantasy is reality in the world today
I'll keep hanging in there, that's the only way
–Parliament, 1970
Heavy times demand not only solidarity, ingenuity and resilience from us all, but also the capacity to fantasize a different existence thereafter. While societal disruptions resulting from armed conflict, natural disaster, famine and pandemic have accompanied homo sapiens sapiens since time immemorial, the world at present finds itself in the midst of the first generation of ubiquitous global crises to unfold in the post-information age.
The aim of the project is to make aware of our nature in park at the Ilm in the context of climate change. Students sense the natural environment and make the invisible data of energy flow perceivable. The task is to intensify the multisensory perception of natural phenomena. Record sound, sense water data (flow rate, temperature gradients, pollution) and store light, observe generation and degeneration of nature and present a “new image” of nature and natural processes.
Mobile media installations will create a special atmosphere related to the natural and architectural context in the park at river Ilm. The media installation should add a new layer of meaningful information to create an interesting environment for interactive communication. Users should become present and be involved in the presentation of the spatial installation through different pattern of communication. The design of a multisensory space, pavilion or other special environment is part of the design project.
During the project module students develop installation concepts for the Media Architecture Biennale 2020 in Amsterdam with the overall topic #FuturesImplied. Selected installations shall be realized in Amsterdam.
The Media Architecture Biennale is a biennial event, featuring workshops, a conference, and an exhibition that attracts interaction designers, lighting designers, architects, artists, researchers, and industry practitioners who showcase their work, analyze new developments, engage in networks, and discuss emerging trends in this new profession.
A small building of information is to be developed in a process of coordination of planning. This point of information without any supervisor indicates the activities of the research initiative „ENERGIEWENDEBAUEN“ and the competition „SDE21_urban hub“. It is supposed to inform a multitude of interested visitors about the latest concepts and strategies on the way to the energy transition. This building of information aims at different target groups and presents content by diverse formats. Digital media as a mediation of sound, light, image, or text can be integrated into architectural modules. It can contribiute to a participatory or interactive communication of information.
In the project competition papers are compiled to the competition „SDE21_urban hub“. Teams of MediaArchitecture students with apprentices can join in. These teams have to consist of at least two different disciplines. The best ideas can be submitted up to the 24th of April in 2020. You can find the complete public offer of the award under sde21-urbanhub.de
MediaArchitecture interventions will be designed at authentic Bauhaus-places and domains of the former Bauhaus protagonists in Weimar to make the history present for visitors. The places form a network of trails and can be experienced during a Bauhaus walk. Interactive installations at this places communicate visual and acoustic information about Bauhaus history through the media sound, light, image, text, colour and material to design hybrid realities and spatial situations. The user can experience with all senses and physical interaction to grasp the knowledge about the Bauhaus-place and history. The specific communication patterns are for different target groups. The students develop context based interactive or reactive prototypes.
Experience and learning situations with water will be developed for the area of Parc on the Ilm in Weimar. Small architectures or interactive installations are situated alongside the river Ilm and form a sequence.
The project aims to develop and realise an exhibition architecture and presentation concept suitable for a selected urban context of Weimar or for the "Oberlichtsaal" in main Building of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
In the project "Video Mapping Experiments" the students were able to acquire the skills and knowledge for the projection of videos on different surfaces.
