Full hydropower ahead for Bhutan!

The goal of this summer semester was to create a concept for a 3D-printable Pelton turbine for the aforementioned hydroelectric power plant in the high mountains of Bhutan. In this process, all necessary components were to be designed, calculated, dimensioned, procured, and ultimately assembled by the students. The group also took on the constructive planning, independently selected materials, and implemented the construction practically. During the summer semester, printing, screwing, and tinkering took place in the workshop of the Energy Systems Chair.

The crowning conclusion of the project was the exhibition of the so-called "Pelton John" at the annual showcase summaery. There, the low-tech (micro) hydropower plant was presented to interested visitors in the courtyard between the cafeteria and the lecture hall building. The electricity generated by Pelton John at summaery was used to power a bubble machine.
