Fields of Research

  • Examining pictorial grammar in moving images, and experimental development of new concepts and aesthetics ranging from video art to narration, documentation and to assignments for industrial use (e.g. promotional clips);
  • Exploring the relationships between form and content, methodology and technology, context and public in audiovisual production;
  • Examining the relations between text, image and sound, their role and impact in different applications in art, media, culture and commerce;
  • Staging digital moving images in a cross-media context, for example as video projections in public space, as part of a multimedia interface, in mobile devices, via video streaming etc.;
  • The aim is to achieve high quality results in art and design with moving pictures. Our efforts were supported by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft with 3 major grants for professional video equipment (1996, 1999, 2001) and by a substantial aid from the Thuringian government (2016).
    Research efforts are shown and evaluated continuously in the works of the students (Bachelor, Master, PhD), of the post-graduate scholarship recipients as well as in the research projects of the assistant teachers.
