After a while of research, I decided to focus on isolating distinct types of bacteria with the aim showing their inter-communication regarding food, as well as their dyeing abilities. Indeed, this idea is not electronics-related, but the good news is, that the name of this course has also the “aesthetics and other interesting stuff” part on it.

Main Ideas

  1. Considering the pattern-forming abilities of Paenibacillus Vortex, I am interested in depicting the communication pathways between nutrients and bacteria. Basically, how the bacteria reach for its nutrients. I am planning on isolating the Paenibacillus Vortex on agar and adding Pepton as a nutrient.
What’s missing: I am on the process of getting the correct information on where to get this bacterium. After that, work will be ready to get started with.


  1. Ecologically-thinking, I am also interested in working with Streptomyces – the bacterium from which approx. 70% of the antibiotics is created. Since it grows in beautiful colors, I plan on trying to isolate it on ISSA (Isolating Salt Starch Agar), on top of a texture (could be silk). Thus I can try to see whether it is capable of being used as a substitution of texture dyes or not.
What’s missing: Still waiting to get an answer, whether there is ISSA on BioLab. This could be also found in agricultural pharmacies, but apparently there is no such pharmacy here in Weimar.
