My Idea for this Semester :)

With the work in stability, I want to approach the theme of instability in an abstract and poetic way. Lately, I have encountered the concept or term of stability in many different contexts: a stable work environment, feeling mentally stable, psychological instability as a major burden. Who is politically stable — and whose arms ideally are as well. But what is it that makes being stable so appealing to us? Is this desire a constant, or is it connected to the crisis-ridden time we live in? And is there not also beauty, or even progressive potential, in instability?

With fragile and unsteady patterns of light and fragments of sound, I want to embark on an abstract search for beauty and solace in instability, without obscuring the fear it can evoke.

Formally, I want to work with optical interference patterns, especially with their transformation through movement and light. When two similar patterns are moved past one another, a new image emerges, moving in wave-like motion. If the movement becomes too fast, this pattern blurs into an indefinable mass. Yet through stroboscopic flashes of light at the right frequency, the image can stabilize again, and through the modulation of light, even alter its perceived direction of movement. This interplay is based on human perception and can only be digitally reproduced to a limited extent. Precisely for this reason, it is inherently unstable: even small deviations and irregularities can lead to dramatic optical effects.

Here, stability or instability arise from the relationship between movement, light, rhythm, and perception. Together with a sonic layer, I want to develop from this a time-based, abstract work that renders my reflections on instability sensorially tangible. The goal for this semester is to develop an initial prototype through which both the technical parameters and the conceptual questions of the work can be explored.

one really inspiring work that pushed my motivation to explore this phenomenon a lot

additionally i want to further develop the Work from last Semester especially in terms of applying for festivals and finding funding for building more Modules. This will include primarilly working with the simulation and the controll/performative system :)
