1. Start your studies with the university library

We would like to welcome all new students at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar at the start of the new semester! We’ve collected some introduction materials on using the library and the most relevant information on getting started with your studies on an information page for first year students. This year, the introduction week’s presentation »Mehr als Bücher – Die Universitätsbibliothek stellt sich vor« (»More than just books – a university library introduction«; German language only) will be held online.
Time: Tuesday, October 5th 2021, 11.15 am - 12 pm
Presenters: Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz, Dr. Katrin Richter

2. QUEER-LIT – A cooperative project about queer feminist literature

To highlight the university library‘s collection of queer feminist literature, there will be a special QUEER-LIT SHELF during the winter semester 2021/22. The QUEER-LIT SHELF will rotate through different library sections on a monthly basis in order to illustrate the interdisciplinary aspects of the issue – from politics to design and urban planning. (Queer) feminist manifestos and textbooks will be available, as will novels featuring queer characters and themes. The collection will be expanded continually, and all books can be borrowed right from the shelf. The QUEER-LIT project aims to increase visibility of queer feminist literature and provide an impulse to consider perspectives of people in the Flinta*(women, lesbian, nonbinary, trans and agender people) and LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual/-gender, queer, intersexual and asexual people) communities. It was initiated and organized by a group of students at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, is supported by the CatCalls of Weimar collective, and is carried out in cooperation with the university library.
You are invited to follow the project on Instagram.

3. New digital journal collection »Emerald Journals - Property Management & Built Environment«

By acquiring a license for the collection »Emerald Journals - Property Management & Built Environment«, we enable members of Bauhaus-Universität to access the full texts of 18 journals electronically, from the areas of construction and real estate management, Disaster Resilience, Smart Cities and Sustainable Development. The journals are also registered in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB).

4. Online Coffee Lectures by the Thuringian Competence Network for Research Data Management

The Thuringian Competence Network for Research Data Management has resumed its Coffee Lecture series in September. Participation in the online events about preregistration, collaborative platforms, data literacy, knowledge management and artificial intelligence is free. Please find more information about the events and how to register here.

5. Exhibition: photo contest »Yearning …«

From October 4th the university library’s entrance hall will host a selection of photographs that were entered in this year’s photo competition held by the International Office at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
In the recent semesters, many study trips had to be made under difficult conditions, cut short or postponed due to the pandemic. The photo competition, therefore, was titled »YEARNING …« - for faraway places, for meetings, for experiencing other countries, people, cultures or languages.
The competition is held every two years by the International Office in cooperation with University Communications and is aimed at students who spent part of their studies abroad, or who are international students at Bauhaus-Universität.
The annotated photographs can be seen until October 10th 2021 and then again from December 1st 2021.

6. »Wolfgang Borchert: Leben - Werk – Wirkung« - an exhibition in the university library’s entrance hall

From July until September 1941 the writer Wolfgang Borchert underwent basic military training in the Weimar-Lützendorf barracks. He returned from World War II as a gravely ill young man who would only have a few more years to live. His writings about military drill and obedience are based on his experiences in Weimar.
The exhibition to commemorate Wolfgang Borcherts’s 100th birthday on May 20th 2021, organized by Thüringer Literaturrat and curated by Bernd M. Kraske (Hamburg), is presented in cooperation with Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the cultural department of the city of Weimar. It can be seen during library opening hours in the entrance hall from October 21st until November 30th.
There is no admission fee.
You are cordially invited to the vernissage on October 21st at 5 pm.

7. University library opening hours during the Weimar Onion Market

During the traditional Weimar Onion Market the library will close at 6 pm on Friday, October 8th 2021, and will remain closed entirely on Saturday, October 9th 2021.
