During this year’s Open Campus Day (»HIT«) on Saturday, 3 June 2023, prospective students can explore the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus between 9 am and 3 pm. Visitors are able to obtain comprehensive information on studying in Weimar during guided tours of the four faculties, visits to the teaching rooms and workshops, and information sessions.
100 years after the first Bauhaus Exhibition, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is providing support for public student projects through the »23:ideas Fund«. On the next two Thursdays, 4 and 11 May, the anniversary year’s coordinator, Thomas Apel, will be hosting information events at 6 pm (German) and at 7 pm (English) in the Bauhaus.Atelier and will also be advising interested students.
Starting at 6 pm on Thursday, 11 May 2023, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will for the first time be celebrating its student volunteers for an entire evening, offering all interested members of the university the opportunity to talk to each other in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. Together we want to celebrate the voluntary engagement of students, something that is often not recognised.
Students at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar actively shape the university through committee work and shape the city through various initiatives. Students can submit nominations for this year’s committee elections until 14 May. Elections will be held in June.
Each year, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar announces a new Bauhaus Guest Professor. For the 2023 summer semester, the university will have the privilege of hosting Professor Jane Bennett, who is the Andrew Mellon Professor of the Humanities at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, with appointments in the Department of Comparative Thought and Literature and also in the Department of Political Science. The focus of Bennett’s work lies in political theory; her research interests include ecological philosophy, political thought in the United States, political rhetoric and belief, and contemporary social theory.
On 21 and 22 July 2023, the conference »Non-machines: Playground of Perspectives« will take place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Interested parties from the fields of art, literature, philosophy and design, as well as activists and changemakers, are invited to participate in the open call. Contributions can be submitted until 10 May.
Im Rahmen des Projektes »GestrickeGewebeGewirke. Textilerbe repaired« finden an vier Abenden im April und Mai 2023 Lectures rund um die Themen Netzwerkarbeit, zeitgenössische künstlerische Position, künstlerische Forschung, textiles Erbe und Nachhaltigkeit im Textilen statt. Die Vorträge können in Präsenz oder online in BigBlueButton besucht werden. Interessierte sind herzlich eingeladen, dabei zu sein!
Im Oktober 2020 startete an der Professur Marketing und Medien mit »brandY« ein Vorhaben von insgesamt 11 europäischen Hochschulen. Ziel des Projektes war die Konzeption, Testung und Implementierung eines interaktiven Lernprogramms zur internationalen Markenführung. Vom 27. Februar bis 3. März 2023 konnten nun sechs Studierende aus dem Masterstudiengang Medienmanagement in Annecy innerhalb eines Intensivkurses eine erste Version der Anwendung testen und weiterentwickeln.
From 23 March to 1 April 2023, 118 students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and its European partner universities will take part in the second Bauhaus Spring School. In five courses on architecture and urbanism, media and culture, participants will have the chance to work together intensively on joint projects. This ERASMUS short-term programme began in the 2022/23 winter semester with online courses and will now continue with a ten-day in-person phase in Weimar.
26 Studierende haben ein Semester lang das Hafenareal in Stralsund in den Blick genommen und Entwürfe für eine nachhaltige Umgestaltung des Areals entwickelt. An den Professuren Entwerfen und Städtebau sowie Verkehrssystemplanung der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und an der dänischen Aarhus School of Architecture sind dabei gemeinsame Lösungen für Fragestellungen aus Städtebau, Verkehr und städtischer Infrastruktur entstanden.
Sieben Studierende der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar sind an der Ausstellung »Die Neue Remise – Gedankenspiele für einen Depotneubau der Altenburger Museen« beteiligt. Die studentischen Entwürfe sind im Sommersemester 2022 an der Professur Denkmalpflege und Baugeschichte entstanden.
Vom 9. bis 12. Februar 2023 präsentierten die Studierenden der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik im und um das Hauptgebäude die Ergebnisse aus ihren Entwurfs-, Forschungs- und Lehrprojekten des Wintersemesters 2022/23. An der diesjährigen »go4spring« beteiligten sich 21 Professuren mit 36 Projekten. Der Fotograf Thomas Müller hat die Ausstellung in Bildern für uns festgehalten.
In the winter semester of 2022/23, students of the Faculty of Art and Design dealt with the biographies of former citizens of Apolda who were victims of social, religious and political persecution before, during and after the Nazi era. The results are installations, objects, short films, paintings, radio productions and participatory artistic works, which are now on display in the exhibition »Na, weil ich gesucht habe wie ein Blöder! Künstlerische Arbeiten zu vergessenen Geschichten aus Apolda« (Well, because I searched like a fool! Artistic Works on Forgotten Stories from Apolda) at the Kulturfabrik Apolda.
As the 2022/2023 winter semester comes to a close, the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism invites you to its semester exhibition from 9 to 12 February 2023. Students from the Urbanistik and Architecture degree programmes will be showing the results of the design, research and teaching projects in an exhibition that will take place both in and around the Main Building. This year’s »go4spring« will be featuring 36 projects from 21 professorships.
The »NU« pop-up shop will be selling products designed by Bauhaus students for three days in Weimar’s Marktstraße. The shop’s design was created and implemented by 16 students working together on an interdisciplinary project.

Wie muss eine Stadt aussehen, damit sich Kinder dort gut zurechtfinden und ihr Leben nach ihren Bedürfnissen gestalten können? In Altenburg stellen Urbanistik-Studierende gemeinsam mit den Altenburger Stadtmenschen am 8 Februar 2023, 13 bis 15 Uhr, die Ergebnisse des Forschungsprojektes vor.
From 3 to 5 February 2023, the sixth annual student-organised Winterwerkschau will take place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculty of Art and Design. Students are invited to present their study projects and work in a wide variety of formats over the course of the three-day event. The Winterwerkschau will be rounded out by information events on studying at the Faculty of Art and Design.
On Friday, 3 February 2023, students from in and around Weimar are invited to discover the Computer Science Bachelor degree programme at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The Computer Science of Media Department is hosting six interactive workshops for the event where participants can explore and learn about current topics in research and teaching in the Faculty of Media’s labs. The »Schnuppertag« will take place from 9 am to 1 pm on the Faculty of Media’s new temporary campus at Schwanseestraße 143.
In the 2023 summer semester, a new venue will make its debut in Weimar’s art scene: the Freie Kunst’s newly founded »iRRE SPACE« exhibition venue. The venue is currently looking for exhibition concepts from all of the university’s faculties. The deadline for applications is Tuesday, 7 February 2023.
