2024 is a super election year in Thuringia, Brandenburg and Saxony with local (from 26 May), European (6 – 9 June) and state (1 September in Thuringia) elections all scheduled to take place. The »92 Tage« (92 days) campaign is the brainchild of instructors and alumni from the Faculty of Art and Design and calls on students from all Thuringian universities to register their residence in Thuringia so that they can vote in the upcoming elections and support democracy in the Free State.
This year is the first year since the pandemic that the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be represented with a stand at the Leipzig Book Fair. Guided by the theme: »Even more reading, even more writing. Neues Schreiben – neues Lesen«, students have designed an interactive exhibition that will be set up at Booth H503 (Hall 2) on 70 square metres centred around current developments in reading and writing in conjunction with artificial intelligence. The title of the exhibition ironically references this year’s »Literaturfestivals Leipzig« slogan: »Who is still reading?«
»Mach dir einen Kopf«: Unter diesem Motto findet der 29. Regionalwettbewerb von »Jugend forscht« für Mittelthüringen am Mittwoch, 28. Februar 2024, an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar statt. Die Universität und die Materialforschungs- und Prüfanstalt (MFPA) Weimar veranstalten den Nachwuchswettbewerb bereits im zweiten Jahr, nachdem sie dessen Patenschaft Ende 2022 übernommen hatten.
At the end of the 2023/24 winter semester, the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is inviting interested parties to attend its »go4spring« semester exhibition. In and around the Main Building from 8 to 11 February 2024, students will be shining a spotlight on their semester projects.

Vom 25. Januar bis 18. Februar 2024 widmet sich die Ausstellung »MOSCHVER – SHELTER FOR THE HOMELESS« im Foyer der Universitätsbibliothek der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar dem sogenannten Monolithischem Schichtverfahren, heute besser bekannt als 3D-Druck. Basierend auf den Ideen und Gedanken des Architekten Helmut T. Weingart und des Bauingenieurs Dr. Jörg Stapel aus dem Jahr 1986 schlägt die Ausstellung einen Bogen zu heutigen Anwendungsbereichen der additiven Fertigung in Industrie und Design. Alle Interessierten sich herzlich eingeladen.
Prof. Dr. Eva Hornecker, Professor of Human-Computer Interaction in the Computer Science of Media Department at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, has been named a »Distinguished Member« of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). She was recognised on 17 January 2024 for her significant contributions to the field of tangible, embedded and embodied interactions (TEI). This title recognises Prof. Hornecker’s commitment to the development of the ACM TEI Conference and the wider community.
Am Freitag, 2. Februar 2024, haben Schüler*innen aus Weimar und Umgebung die Gelegenheit, den Bachelor-Studiengang Informatik an der Fakultät Medien der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar kennenzulernen. Dafür gestaltet der Fachbereich Medieninformatik vier interaktive Workshops, bei denen die Teilnehmer*innen aktuelle Themen aus Forschung und Lehre in den Laboren erfahren und testen können. Der Schnuppertag findet von 9 bis 12.30 Uhr auf dem Übergangscampus der Fakultät Medien in der Schwanseestraße 143 statt.
From 2 to 4 February 2024, the student-organised »Winterwerkschau« will take place for the seventh time at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Students will present around 70 projects and study results, mainly from the Faculty of Art and Design, at more than 20 locations. For prospective students, portfolio consultations are offered in the artistic degree programmes, which can be attended without prior registration.
From 24 to 26 January 2024, the Department of »Medientheorie und Wissenscahftsgeschichte« at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be hosting the conference »Assistants, Avatars, Atmospheres. Perspectives on Animism in Media Studies and Media Art«. During this event, experts will discuss the ways in which novel technologies impact how we experience our environment.

This year’s DAAD Prize goes to Betül Peker from Türkiye. In addition to her outstanding academic achievements in her Media Art and Design Master's programme, she has demonstrated an impressive range of intercultural and social commitment both within and outside of the University.
On Saturday 09 December 2023, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, together with Studierendenwerk Thüringen, invites you to the annual »Buy Yourself a Piece of Bauhaus« Christmas market. With nearly 80 stands, visitors can expect to find unique and handmade products, as well as an exciting supporting programme.
Over the next three years, the Departments of Computer Science in Architecture, Urban Studies and Social Research, and Virtual Reality and Visualisation in the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and the Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be working together with partners in Weimar and Berlin to research how citizens can participate in urban development processes using virtual reality. The »Bauhaus Participation Lab« joint project is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with nearly 1.3 million euros.
Unusual gifts for Christmas will be on sale at the annual Bauhaus Christmas market in the Mensa am Park from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, 9 December 2023.
At the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism’s graduation ceremony on 17 November 2023, awards were presented for outstanding final thesis projects. The 23 Bachelor and Master projects nominated by the faculty's departments will be on display in the Main Building until 8 December 2023. The works on display include four award-winning projects from the »Design« and »Research« categories, as well as nine projects that received honourable mentions.
Each year, the German government hosts a Digital Summit, a congress that addresses the challenges posed by the digital transformation in Germany. The Digital Summit will be held in Jena on 20 and 21 November this year. During the summit, representatives from business, science and civil society will have the chance to engage directly with the German government and discuss the potential and opportunities of the digital transformation on-site. The key question is: How can we harness digital technologies to shape a sustainable and liveable future?
Am 5. Dezember 2023 laden der Career Service und die Gründerwerkstatt neudeli der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar gemeinsam mit der Thüringer Agentur für die Kreativwirtschaft (THAK) und der Thüringer Agentur für Fachkräftegewinnung (ThAFF) zur Veranstaltung »Should I Stay Or Should I Go? – Wege in die Thüringer Kreativwirtschaft nach dem Studium« in die Universitätsbibliothek ein. Ab 15 Uhr sind Studierende und Alumni kreativer Studiengänge dazu aufgerufen, sich durch Impulsvorträge und Beratungsangebote über ihre beruflichen Perspektiven in Thüringen zu informieren.
Produktdesign (Product Design) duos Julia Huhnholz and Friedrich Gerlach as well as Felix Stockhausen and Michael Mahle were awarded with first place prizes at this year’s »Mia Seeger Preis«. 1,500 euros prize money was awarded for the Bachelor's thesis »The Essence of Biocement«, which has already been recognised with numerous awards, and the semester project »Zweirad«.
Society is evolving and the housing market is changing with it. A research training group at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Goethe University Frankfurt am Main are planning to scientifically investigate this relationship.
