Read on to learn more about the alumni meet-ups we had this year, upcoming alumni and IfEU events, what our alumnus Dilşad is currently doing after completing her master’s degree in European Urban Studies and how you can stay in contact or collaborate with us for future alumni newsletter and stay connected with the IfEU.

Alumni Meet-ups 2026

This year saw some wonderful gatherings of our Alumni Community.

Student Forum @ IfEU

On February 6th, during the 2026 IfEU-Network Meeting „Researching Cities in Europe“, with academics from partner organizations, some alumni from the European Urban Studies programme participated in a „inter-generational Student Forum“. Together with current students from the EUS masters, we discussed our thoughts on the effects of the Guided Research Project (GRP) during and after the study time. We compared our experiences across countries and years. It was great to bring so many different perspectives into one room!

Alumni Trip to Augsburg

The Urbanistik-Alumni-Verein is an association that gathers former students from the Bachelor and from the Master Urbanistik, as well as from the Master European Urban Studies. Between the 27th of February and the 1st of March, the Urbanistik-Alumni-Verein organised a trip to Augsburg, Germany. The participants visited the famous “Fuggerei”, which is one of the oldest social housing quarters still in use today (dating back to the 16th century!). They also enjoyed a tour on Augsburgs‘ water management and had interesting meetings with actors both from the local „Quartiersmanagement“ and the city‘s urban planning department.

Upcoming Alumni Events@Summaery

Weimar is worth returning to – and the university provides good reasons for such a trip on two occasions every year: for Summaery, and for the Graduation Ceremony. During Summaery there will be a centrally organised, exciting programme with a focus on Alumni, as well as a family reunion, which also includes former Bachelor’s students.

General Alumni Events

Alumni events organized from the General Alumni Network will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. These include various Campus tours as well as a Networking Reception. The entire program can be found here: www.uni-weimar.de/en/university/partners-and-alumni/alumni/alumni-reunions/worldwideweimar/welcome-to-summaery/

Alumni Urbanistik Brunch, Saturday at 10am

This year again, the Alumni Verein is organising an Alumni Brunch during the BUW Summaery. It will take place on July 11th (Saturday) at 10 am in the IfEU-Garden and is a great opportunity to reunite with familiar faces or meet new ones. Former students both from Bachelor and Master are welcome to participate.
If you would like to join, it's helpful if you put your name into the table below:  Alumni-Reunion 2026 - Google Sheets

Meet Dilşad ...

Dilşad is an alumnus of European Urban Studies, from which she graduated in 2022. Her works combine diverse forms of visual art, design, activism and research, with a special focus on practices of ecology in Southern Anatolia, Turkey and beyond. At the moment, Dilşad pursues a practice-based PhD in the degree program „Art & Design“ at the BUW.

Alumni Map

Time flies, and many of you are beginning exciting new chapters, settling into cities across Germany and around the world. We love seeing where life is taking you — and we’d like to stay connected while helping alumni find and support one another, wherever they may be.

To make that easier, there’s the collaborative online map where you can pin your current location. This way, others can see where you’re living and working and reach out if they’re nearby. It’s a simple way to keep the IfEU alumni network close-knit, even across great distances.

Still hot! Upload Your Thesis

You have the option to upload and publish your Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis through the University Library. There are a few requirements to keep in mind: your thesis must have received at least a “good” grade, and you’ll need to provide proof of that. You can find more details on the following website:  https://www.uni-weimar.de/en/university/structure/central-university-facilities/university-library/research-and-publish/doctoral-thesis-office/

We also invite you to go take a look at our „ifeu.OPEN“ publication series. These are particularly distinguished works by students of our institute, which are published following a recommendation by the respective supervisor. See here: https://www.uni-weimar.de/en/architecture-and-urbanism/institutes/ifeu/research/publication-series-ifeu/ifeuopen/

Annual IfEU Conference: „Weiter wohnen wie gewohnt?“

This year’s annual conference, organized together with the DFG Research Training Group „Gewohnter Wandel - Societal transformation and spatial materialization of housing“, took place on May 7th and 8th. Central topic was the future of housing, addressing the tension between social transformations and material realities. Around 200 participants from diverse fields and backgrounds came together for panel discussions, presentations and workshops.

You can find more details about the conference and the full programme here: https://www.uni-weimar.de/de/architektur-und-urbanistik/institute/ifeu/forschung/jahrestagungen/2026weiter-wohnen-wie-gewohnt/. The call for 12 new doctoral positions in Frankfurt am Main and Weimar will be published in the second half of July 2026.
