1. Withdrawn library books at low prices
On June 3rd and 4th from 10 am till 3 pm our book sale will take place in the library entrance area. We'll be selling withdrawn textbooks and library books from all subject areas at low prices. You can support the university library with your purchase - all profits will be used to buy new books and the latest editions for the library collection. We're looking forward to seeing you! Please bring your thoska for payment.
2. A tree donation for Weimar
We took part in the »Mein Stadtbaum« initiative and – under very different financial conditions –used the profits from the 2025 book sale to donate a black poplar tree to the city of Weimar, which was planted in the Weimarhallenpark on December 11th 2025. We hope to send a signal supporting sustainability, quality of life and the future of our city, and we're happy to contribute to a green Weimar that's worth living in for current and coming generations. We could not have done it without every one of you who made a purchase at the book sale - thank you so much!
3. Commemorative Ceremony »30 Years UNESCO World Heritage – Bauhaus Sites« & Pop-Up Exhibition for the 100th Bauhaus Anniversary in Dessau
On 7 June at 11 a.m., the Bauhaus University Weimar, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, and the city of Weimar will jointly celebrate the 30th anniversary of the recognition of the Bauhaus sites as UNESCO World Heritage. The ceremony will take place in the Maurice-Halbwachs Auditorium.
From 4 to 7 June, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation also presents the pop-up exhibition »An die Substanz« in the foyer of Weimar’s University Library. The exhibition explores the »materials of modernity« – concrete, steel, glass, brick, and aluminum – and connects them with iconic Bauhaus designs. Three-dimensional, life-sized displays create walkable spaces where the material essence of the Bauhaus becomes tangible and experiential. Inspired by historical exhibition concepts, the flexible displays generate spatial collages that adapt to their surroundings.
The project travels from Berlin via Stuttgart to Weimar, fostering a dynamic dialogue between past and present around the themes of the centenary.
4. Photography Exhibition »BLACK IN THÜRINGEN« by Yero Adugna Eticha with Opening Reception on June 4
»Black in Thüringen« is a photographic project by artist Yero Adugna Eticha that sheds light on the lived realities and perspectives of Black people in Thuringia. Building on his earlier works »Black in Berlin« and »Black in Dortmund«, Adugna Eticha presents portraits of Afro-Germans who live, study, or work in Thuringia.
The approximately 20 black-and-white photographs depict the subjects in the studio, combining personal stories with aspects of Thuringia’s memory culture.
