1. New Research Tools in the Discovery System BibSearch

With the latest update to BibSearch, you can now conduct your research more precisely and easily:

  • New Filter: »Basic Classification (BKL)«
This new filter helps you sort and search literature by thematic categories, making it easier to find relevant materials in your field of study.
  • New Filter: »Full-Text Search«
When using the »Full-Text Search« filter, activate the option »Table of Contents« to search specifically for terms appearing in a work’s table of contents. Search results are indicated by highlighted numbers in the text. Simply click on a number to open the corresponding context directly.

Additionally, improvements are now available in your library account: for example, you can now update your email address yourself.
These and other new features are explained in detail on the information page.

2. Audio Stories of Resistance – Accessible via QR Code, even in the Library

Since May 8th, the Bauhaus University Weimar has been supporting the audio narrative history project »Widerstand. Hörgeschichten aus Thüringen 1939–1945« (Resistance. Audio Stories from Thuringia 1939–1945), realized by Stiftung Gedenkstätten Buchenwald und Mittelbau-Dora (Foundation Memorial Sites Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora) together with Museum Zwangsarbeit im Nationalsozialismus Weimar (Museum of Forced Labour under National Socialism in Weimar).
At the heart of the project are twelve audio stories from Thuringia, recounting acts of resistance, solidarity, and humanity during World War II. These stories can be experienced via QR code on smartphones, as well as through installations in Weimar and Nordhausen. The project is further enriched by artistic interventions in public spaces, created by Weimar-based artist Anke Heelemann. Her installations are designed to bring people unexpectedly into contact with the audio stories during everyday moments.
The university library is also making the audio stories accessible, inviting visitors to listen directly via QR code on-site.

3. »Wohnen ist ein Menschenrecht« (Housing is a Human Right) – Exhibition in the Library Foyer from May 6 to May 28

The exhibition is presented in conjunction with the annual conference of the Graduate College »Gewohnter Wandel« (Habitual Change) and the Institute for European Urbanism (IfEU).
Housing is a fundamental human need and a human right. It is enshrined in Article 11 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of the United Nations (UN Social Covenant). Yet today, housing is increasingly treated as a commodity. In the context of capitalist housing production and ongoing crises, many people - especially those in vulnerable life situations - struggle to find suitable and affordable housing. The state must take decisive action and set priorities to address this challenge.Through graphics, statistics, and display panels, the exhibition illustrates the complex issues surrounding affordability, ecological renovation, and segregation. At the same time, it presents concrete political strategies to tackle the housing crisis.
The exhibition posters were previously shown in 2023 as a temporary installation at the Bauhaus Museum Weimar by Weimar Housing Research, a network affiliated with the IfEU, during the thematic year »Wohnen« (Housing). With the central question »How do we want to live in the future?« the exhibition is more relevant than ever.
